St. Joseph Health System

St. Joseph Health System (SJHS) of Sonoma County includes two major North Bay hospitals and Hospice. The previous St. Joseph Health System Web site had several challenges:

The home page was difficult to navigate. Too many link and graphical options left site visitors unsure where to go on the site. Statistics show that if site visitors go to a Web site and have difficulty finding information, they are unlikely to return again.

The site did not reflect the business needs of the organization. For example information on how to donate was buried on the site. Directions to facilities were not obvious. Users had to search to find important information.

The site branding was weak. A healthy care system should be warm and welcoming. Instead the site seemed sterile with too many different types of graphical images.

The content for the two hospitals and hospice was hard to locate.

Jamie Spooner met with the SJHS departments to help facilitate their needs. This included interactive exercises to get everyone in agreement on the priorities of content for a new Web site design. Based on this work Jamie was able to create revised site architecture. She also recommended creation of separate sites for the hospitals and hospice, using color coding to differentiate the organizations. SJHS later hired Planeteria, Inc. to redesign the SJHS Web site.
